What this website is, and what it is not
The Untravelist is an editorial platform. It publishes writing, photography and travel research produced by its curators or guest authors, and it introduces readers to the independent operators who design and deliver journeys.
The Untravelist does not sell, resell, contract for or deliver any travel service. It does not act as a travel agent, tour operator, broker, reseller or intermediary. It does not combine travel services into packages, it does not offer travel services for a single or inclusive price, it takes no payment for travel services and it operates no booking system. Where you engage an operator, you contract with that operator directly and The Untravelist is not a party to that contract. The Service disclaimer section of this page explains what happens when you make an enquiry.
Who operates this website
The Untravelist is operated jointly by the two operators named in the Legal notice section of this page.
Editorial independence
Our curators write about places, routes and operators on the basis of their own experience and judgement. The Untravelist takes no commission from operators or suppliers on any travel service you book. Where an article is sponsored, produced in partnership or contains affiliate or paid links, we say so at the start, before you reach any of that content.
Permitted use
You may read, share and link to content on this website for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not reproduce, republish, systematically extract or commercially exploit any content without written permission.
Accuracy of content
Editorial content reflects the observations and judgement of its authors at the time of publication. Travel conditions, prices, opening times, permits and local circumstances change. We make reasonable efforts to keep content current, and we do not warrant that it is complete, accurate or up to date. You should verify anything you intend to rely on.
Third-party links
This website links to third-party websites and services. We do not control them and we accept no responsibility for their content, availability or practices.
Availability
We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of this website. We may suspend, withdraw or change any part of it without notice.

Data protection
The two operators named above act as joint controllers for personal data collected through this website. This includes newsletter subscriptions, resource downloads, website analytics and enquiry form submissions. Once an enquiry is passed to the operator handling it, that operator is solely responsible for how the enquiry is used in providing its services to you. Our Privacy Policy sets out the essence of the arrangement between the joint controllers, what data we collect, the legal basis for processing it, how long we keep it, how to exercise your rights and who to contact. You may exercise your rights against either joint controller.

Ownership
All editorial content on this website, including written articles, photography, illustration, maps, journey descriptions and design elements, is protected by copyright. Rights are held by The Untravelist's operators, by the individual curators who produced the work or by third-party contributors, according to the arrangements in place for each piece.
Curator and contributor content
Curators and guest contributors retain the rights in their own work and license it to The Untravelist for publication. Attribution appears alongside each piece where a named contributor is involved.
Illustration and cartography
Illustrations and illustrated maps are commissioned works. Rights are held as agreed with the individual artist. Reproduction requires permission from the rights holder.
Permitted use
Short quotation with clear attribution and a link to the original page is permitted. Reproduction of full articles, image sets or journey content is not.
Reporting infringement

This section explains what happens when you make an enquiry through this website. The Terms and conditions of website use section sets out what The Untravelist is and is not.
Who you contract with
Every service offered through this website is provided by one of the independent operators named on this page. When you submit an enquiry, it is routed directly to the relevant operator, and that operator is disclosed to you before you submit.
Any agreement for a service is made directly between you and that operator, under their own terms. Those terms cover scope, fees, payment, cancellation and complaints, and the operator provides them to you before you commit to anything. The Untravelist is not a party to that agreement, and it has no role in the delivery of the service.
Responsibility for delivery
Each operator is solely responsible for the services it provides, for its own regulatory compliance and licensing, and for the accuracy of the information it supplies about its services.
Relying on what you read here
Editorial content on this website describes places, routes and conditions as our curators found them. It is general editorial content rather than advice given to you personally, and it is not a substitute for official government travel advice. Where you engage an operator, any recommendations they give you form part of the service you have agreed with them.
Before you travel, you are responsible for checking entry and visa requirements, for arranging appropriate travel and medical insurance, and for assessing whether an activity suits your health, fitness and experience.
